Toi o Tāmaki
Auckland Art Gallery
Location: Central, Auckland, NZ
Completion: 2011
Material: Jura Limestone
World Architecture Festival’s 2013 World Building of the Year, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, is a compelling example of how contemporary design can enhance historic architecture.
The original French Renaissance-style building is complemented by a new forecourt and entranceway in German Jura limestone. Durable and refined, its warm beige tones bring a sense of clarity and cohesion to the architectural language.
European Stone Masons undertook the installation, contributing to one of Auckland’s most significant cultural landmarks.
